The 1942 (War Emergency Edition) of the MUTCD was published by the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO), the Institute of Traffic Engineers (ITE), and the National Conference on Street and Highway Safety (NCSHS). This replaced the original 1935 edition, and served as the official edition of the MUTCD in the United States until the publication of the 1948 edition.
